VOYAGE LONDON Cardigan

Fabulous 1990s Voyage London grey and plum rhinestone and net embellished velvet cardigan or top.

Description

Known as Kate Moss's favourite label during the 1990s, Voyage London was founded by Louise and Tiziano Mazilli. They opened a shop on Fulham Road, London, in 1991 and quickly gained notoriety for their quite high prices and a very strict door policy (Madonna and Naomi Campbell were both reportedly turned away.) Those who made it in were – amongst others – Kate Moss, Amber Valletta and Linda Evangelista, who once declared, "I can't survive without your clothes". Tiny cardigans costed around £500 plus, figure-hugging long dresses at about £1500 and stylish coats up to £3500. However, all this was immaterial when offset against the reality of something that was completely unique, beautifully handmade and wildly trend-setting. Voyage also had the competitive edge of using old fabrics to create recycled clothing with a vintage feel. The shop closed in 2002.

Here we have a wonderful 1990s 'VOYAGE' 'Invest in the Original' embellished velvet cardigan that can be worn as a top as well.

The figure skimming cardigan is made from a striking ribbed grey velvet. The velvet gives it depth and the colour changes a bit from platinum grey to silver depending on the light you are in.

The design is beautifully accentuated with a wide border of a rich plum coloured velvet around the neckline running down to the hip bones, the cuffs and above the two patch pockets on the front. I absolutely adore how this edging is covered with a layer of black net fabric that is covered with tiny rhinestones that sparkle when you move. It gives the piece that little extra!

Unlined and closes at the center front with four oversized grey mother-of-pearl buttons that actually are push buttons. Tagged a vintage size M. The fabric does have some stretch and the measurements provided are the comfortable range when laying flat.

The lovely sleek Voyage London boho velvet slip dress that you see in picture 2 is not included but available here.

Condition

This cardigan is in excellent vintage condition.

MOSCHINO Cheap & Chic Top

Witty Moschino Cheap and Chic "SIAMO ALLA FRUTTA!" embroidered top from the early 1990s.

Description

This is an early 1990s instantly recognizable Moschino Cheap and Chic top and a wearable collectors piece which captures the fun vibe that Moschino has always represented as a brand.

The sleek black top features a pale gold metallic thread embroidery spelling out "SIAMO ALLA FRUTTA!". It is an Italian idiomatic expression that means translated literally: "We are at the fruit". As fruits are served in last within an Italian meal, figuratively it wants to say that someone has reached the end of the line. Franco Moschino's early 1990s creations often expressed his personal concerns on political, sociological and environmental issues. In this case he may have hinted at the political crisis in Italy at that time.

The straight cut sleeveless design is unlined and slips over the head. It is made from a high quality rayon crepe and tagged a vintage IT 44, D 40, GB 12, USA 10.

DOLCE & GABBANA Bustier

Rare documented Dolce & Gabbana runway Fall/Winter 1993/94 corset bustier top.

Description

Corsets belong to the most iconic items the Italian luxury brand Dolce & Gabbana is associated with. All the more, as we are talking about vintage versions from the years 1992 to 1994 when Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana initially began to add them regularly into their collections.

This incredibly beautiful and rare Dolce & Gabbana bustier top is well documented and to my delight, after some extensive research, I was able to date it to the "Orient Express" collection from Fall/Winter 1993. It was that September when Dolce & Gabbana exclusively designed 1,500 costumes for Madonna's 1993 World Tour "The Girlie Show", among them various corsets and bras.

Furthermore a twin of it was worn on the runway and versions of it were shot by Steven Meisel for the Dolce & Gabbana advertising campaign of that fall 1993. I found also a CNN STYLE video sequence of the fashion show of that year showing a sister bustier of this one. Please send us a note if you would like to see it.

Like several other outstanding pieces that will be listed gradually, the bustier top comes direct from a German socialite and fashion collector so has not been on the market prior to this.

The romantic corset is reminiscent of the ones Marie Antoinette of France used to wear in the 18th century. It is made from two different rococo-style floral fabrics in shades of pale pink, light green, baby blue and cream with concave seaming and built in wired cups. The boned design is literally shaped to the female form and elaborately decorated with cream lace and ruby and beige velvet ribbons and lovely ruby velvet bows. Unlined but with finished interior seams. Gold metal zip closure on centre back. Labeled "DOLCE & GABBANA Made in Italy" and tagged a vintage size IT 42.

It is definitely an important and hard to find collectible that will only increase in value. Museum quality!

This bustier top is in excellent vintage condition. Worn once only.

EMILIO PUCCI Blouse & Scarf

Gorgeous signature floral print blouse and scarf set by Emilio Pucci from the 1970s.

Description

This rare 1970s vintage Emilio Pucci silk crepe blouse and scarf set is in an amazing colouring. Both pieces feature one of Pucci's signature rose prints in shades of pink on a lilac backdrop.

The lovely blouse is a straight cut design with a round neck and a tie that is built right into the neckline as an extension of the blouse, a yoke at the shoulders and back, two front pockets, long sleeves with soft gathered shoulders and buttoned cuffs and side slits. It closes down the front with fabric covered buttons and is signed "Emilio" throughout the print of the fabric and additionally "© Emilio Pucci" (see picture 10). The design is lined under the yoke with a plain lavender silk crepe, otherwise unlined and labeled "EMILIO PUCCI". Tagged a vintage size 10.

The corresponding silk crepe scarf features a variation of the blouse's rose print adding stylized trumpet flowers to the design and is surrounded by a light and bright pink border. Love the rose blossoms in the corners! It is super light weight and allows you to wear it for many purposes, as a scarf, a shawl, a top, a sarong (see pictures 13 to 15) or anything else you can dream up style wise. The design is signed "Emilio" throughout the print of the fabric and additionally "© Emilio Pucci" (see picture 18). The edges are hand rolled.

YVES SAINT LAURENT Blouse

Important ultra-rare feather chiffon wrap blouse by Yves Saint Laurent, c. 1969.

Description

This is what I believe to be the ready-to-wear Rive Gauche version of Yves Saint Laurent's iconic and scandalous Autumn/Winter 1968/1969 Haute Couture "Cigaline" blouse. A wonderful sheer black chiffon wrap blouse with an opulent feather collar.

""Nothing is more beautiful than a naked body", once said Yves Saint Laurent and made the female chest visible with his first sheer look... The nude look was born. In 1968, Saint Laurent designed the most emblematic example of this: a completely transparent chiffon dress with a belt made of feathers." (see picture 15) – Courtesy of Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris.

I am happy to have found documentation of the sister blouse with a Vogue editorial shot from 1969 (see picture 14).

This beyond beautiful wrap blouse is made from sheer black chiffon and shows a lush collar all over with hand dyed jet black feathers that are handset. The design has three-quarter-length balloon sleeves with elastic cuffs. The long ties can be wrapped around your waist in different ways. At both ends of the feather collar two satin ribbons are fixed that are beautifully embellished with black rhinestone-decorated beads and feather tassels. They allow you to close the collar as high as you wish and show as much skin as you dare.

The blouse feels like next to nothing on and the black is just amazing! This is a very rare and special piece. A notice-me evening look when worn with a black lace bra (and simple black top if you wish so) and paired with sleek skinny black trousers.

It is labelled "SAINT LAURENT rive gauche PARIS MADE IN FRANCE" and tagged a French vintage size 40. The wrap style will allow it to be worn on a range of sizes.

Designer

Yves Saint Laurent was born in 1936 in Oran, Algeria and began his career as an assistant of Christian Dior. When Dior died in 1957, he became the artistic director. In 1962 he opened his own fashion house, and in 1966, he created his ready-to-wear line Rive Gauche. By the 1980s, Yves Saint Laurent was a true icon. He was the first living designer to receive a solo exhibition in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1983. He died in 2008.

NINA RICCI Blouse

Sophisticated devoré blouse by Nina Ricci Haute Boutique from the early 1970s.

Description

This sheer black blouse features a tone on tone geometric and partially metallic devoré effect, a round neck, long sleeves with cuffs and a loose fit. It is made from a silk-blend fabric and shows the "Nina Ricci Haute Boutique Paris" label and the care tag.

Designer

Nina Ricci was founded by Italian-born Maria Nielli (1883-1970) who moved to France in her early teens. She started to work as a dressmaker's apprentice and went on to design for various fashion houses. In 1904 Nielli married jeweler Luigi Ricci. It was not until she was almost 50 that Nina Ricci set up the house of Ricci in Paris in 1932, supported by her son Robert. She did her designing directly on the mannequin to ensure they would have the right shape upon completion. Nina Ricci's creations became known for her elegant, sophisticated and classic style and her high standard of workmanship.
