MOSCHINO Trouser Suit

Fancy Moschino floral and Vichy check print trouser suit from the early 1990s.

Description

Early Moschino pieces designed by Franco Moschino himself – often referred to as Italian fashion's "enfant terrible" – within the short period when he launched the House of Moschino in 1983 until he passed away in 1994 are very sought after.

This treasure, like several others already listed in the shop, comes direct from a German socialite and fashion collector so has not been on the market prior to this.

Oh! Jackie is delighted to offer this rare and lovely early 1990s Moschino Cheap and Chic floral and Vichy check print jacket and trousers suit. Love the beautiful and eye-catching frosted pink blossom buttons!

The jacket features a double breasted style with wide lapels, light shoulder pads, front flap pockets and a button closure. It is printed allover with pink blossoms and golden bows on a light blue background. If you have a closer look you will spot a subtle "Cheap and Chic" writing on the bows' ribbons. The lapels and pocket flaps are done in a contrasting black and white Vichy check. Fully lined in a black "Cheap & Chic by Moschino" signed silky rayon.

The matching cigarette trousers are designed with a high rise and fall to ankle length with a slim cut. They show the same floral print of the jacket but with light blue bows and on a white background. Close with a concealed zip and button fastening at the left side and are unlined.

Both pieces are made in Italy from a cotton and rayon mix and labeled "Cheap & Chic by Moschino". Tagged a vintage I 42, D 38, F 38, GB 10, USA 8. Run smaller.

MOSCHINO COUTURE Suit

Well documented skirt suit by Moschino Couture from Spring/Summer 1989.

Description

Early Moschino pieces designed by Franco Moschino himself – often referred to as Italian fashion's "enfant terrible" – within the short period when he launched the House of Moschino in 1983 until he passed away in 1994 are very sought after. This treasure, like several others that will be listed gradually comes direct from a German socialite and fashion collector so has not been on the market prior to this.

This is an eye-catching skirt suit from Franco Moschino's Spring-Summer 1989 Couture Collection that puts you instantly into good humor. It captures the fun and charm vibe that Moschino has always represented as a brand.

I am happy to have found documentation of it with a Vogue editorial shot from March 1989 (see last picture) and a Fashion Channel Video sequence of the fashion show of that year.

The design has an open front with no closure, four real buttoned front patch pockets, shoulder pads and is decorated along both sides of the center front with six fabric covered buttons and four beautiful iridescent rhinestone adorned buttons. The long sleeves show each three of the rhinestone decorated buttons at the cuffs with real buttonholes.

The matching short high waisted pencil skirt features a waistband and two real patch pockets at the front. One closes with one of the fabric covered buttons, the other with one of the rhinestone adorned buttons. It closes with a button and a zip in the center back.

Both pieces are made from light pure wool and are fully lined in a cherry-red rayon/acetate blend. The jacket's label reads "MOSCHINO COUTURE!" and features the iconic golden heart. Tagged a vintage IT 42, D 38, GB 10, USA 8. The skirt's label has been cut off.

The sheer silk chiffon blouse has a notched collar, a front fabric button fastening, side slits and long sleeves with wide cuffs. DIOR Haute Couture Suit

Timelessly elegant numbered Haute Couture jacket and skirt suit by Marc Bohan for Christian Dior from Spring-Summer 1989.

Description

This Dior skirt suit is constructed in a high quality wool in that perfect navy blue that Christian Dior always fascinated: “Among all colours, navy blue is the only one which can ever compete with black, it has all the same qualities,” he said once. The fabric has enough weight to it to take advantage of its slightly sculptural qualities while still remaining light weight when on. It is lined in deep blue silk. A perfect piece for the office or daytime events in a wearable size.

The jacket has a slightly fitted cut, notched lapels, long sleeves with a two button cuff, one breast pocket on the left side, two lower front pockets that are sculpted to diagonal design (all functional) and closes at the front. The original label has the registered couture number 25535 and the fabric tag behind. You could easily wear the jacket on its own, teamed with tailored trousers for a sleek office look.

The matching skirt is just below the knee, has a simple, straight cut with a center back vent and no waistband. It closes in the center back with a hidden painted metal zip and an inner button at waist.

PLEASE NOTE: This suit is from Marc Bohan's last collection for the house of Dior. After designing 30 years for the French couture house he was replaced by Gianfranco Ferré whose first collection was the one for Autumn/Winter 1989.

Designer

Christian Dior (1905-1958) was a French couturier and one of the most influential designers of the 20th century. His designs have been worn by film stars and royalty as well. Dior began his fashion career by selling sketches of hats and finally founded his own fashion house in Paris in 1946. For his first collection, he created the opulent "New Look" with a fuller bust, a cinched waist and a full skirt which contrasted the grim living conditions of post-war Europe.
